# California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (CALeVIP)

CALeVIP provides funding to install public EV charging infrastructure throughout California. ChargeLab is an eligible equipment & service provider for all CALeVIP projects.

## What is CALeVIP?

The California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (CALeVIP) is a project-based grant program funded by the [California Energy Commission](http://https-www.energy.ca.gov/) and implemented by the [Center for Sustainable Energy](http://energycenter.org/). CALeVIP originally focused on public Level 2 and DC fast charging infrastructure, aiming to meet the current and future EV charging needs of different regions throughout California. The program is now focused exclusively on high-speed DC fast chargers.

The latest iteration of CALeVIP provides DCFC rebates up to 50% of approved project costs, with a maximum of $100,000 per active connector.

### CALeVIP 1.0

The first version of CALeVIP provided county-specific rebates for both Level 2 and DC fast chargers. CALeVIP 1.0 launched 13 projects between 2017 and 2022, covering 36 counties across California. In total, CALeVIP was funded for $186 million in EV charging rebates.

Some CALeVIP 1.0 projects still have funding available for Level 2 charger rebates. These projects will run until all funds have been exhausted. To view all CALeVIP 1.0 projects, visit [this site](https://calevip.org/find-project).

### CALeVIP 2.0

The current version of CALeVIP launched in 2023. It focuses exclusively for high-speed DC fast chargers, and favors applicants who have already started site verification, permitting, and utility designs. In other words, CALeVIP 2.0 is for shovel-ready DC fast charger installations.

The debut CALeVIP 2.0 project is [Golden State Priority Project](https://calevip.org/incentive-project/golden-state-priority-project). In summary:

- The Golden State Priority Parents provides rebates for DC fast chargers capable of outputting at least 150 kW,
- The project is only available for sites in the eastern and central regions of California,
- Eligible applicants can receive up 50% of their total project costs, to a maximum of $100,000 per active connector,
- Funding is only available for sites in disadvantaged communities (DAC) or low-income utilities (LAC).
- This first CALeVIP 2.0 project is funded up to $30 million.
- The Golden State Priority Project is now open—the application window closes at **5:00 PM** on **March 10, 2023**.
